“Semangkuk Sup Makan Siang atau CULTUURSTELSEL” is a theatre performance rehearsing the actor’s skill being combined with the nuance of stage and also with the musical arrangement on stage performing an interesting visual artistic design as an intimate space that will bring the audiences involve in art happening (aesthetic) together.

This performance is a retrospective discussion about us as a part of movement of being the Indonesia that we dream of. One of the important Indonesian history is “Tanam Paksa or Cultuurstelsel” becoming retrospective fundamental for everyone for this long.

Java war (1825-1830) destroyed both sides. “Hindia Belanda” in his ruins thought always to return his debts becoming smart preliminary ideas as a modern colonial typical, which was Cultuurstelsel, idea of Van Den Bosch, the former of governor general Hindia Belanda. His ingenuity convinced his king that Cultuurstelsel is not “tanam paksa” but this was a policy package based on local wisdom. In Bosch mind, Hindia became delicious soup, an appetizer of lunch. At this time, the colonial government made the Javanese residents as food chain. Thus in this performance, the main actor said: “Today is inhumanity day being celebrated as civilization!”

This show will be performed in two cities: Yogyakarta and Jakarta. The professionalism of actors and the shrewdness of director are challenged to perform the captivating performance. The audience will be found so many unpredictable scenes in this show. Besides that, the audience will be brought in the nuance of centuries ago in various dialogues and also the act of the actors. This show not only entertaining but also share so many knowledge of Indonesia history.
